The Bay Area Signals, Information, and Control Symposium (BASICS) is an annual one-day research symposium alternately held at Stanford and UC Berkeley. The purpose of the symposium is to foster interactions between researchers at Stanford, Berkeley, and in the local industry. The themes of the symposium include Signal and Image Processing, Wireless Communications, Information Theory, Optimization, Medical Imaging, and Network Theory and Algorithms. It was held for the first time last year at Berkeley.

This year, BASICS will be held at Stanford University on Friday, April 15, 2005. The symposium is being organized by Michael Gastpar (Berkeley), Balaji Prabhakar (Stanford), David Tse (Berkeley), and Tsachy Weissman (Stanford).

The symposium will feature a series of invited talks along with a poster session.
